We meet in the Special Activities Center at Eisenhower Park which is located at the Merrick Avenue entrance to the park. Small white house on the right behind the new handicap accessible ball field as you enter from Merrick Ave. We are there every Monday night between 7 and 9PM unless it is a holiday. Our Business meetings are held on the last Monday of the month.
We have a full HF station setup and can operate phone or CW. Our Club call is K2VN. We operate Field Day every year from a local park. The last several years we have operated during Lighthouse Weekend held in August and Winter Field Day held in January.
Even though we are past Hurricane season it is always a good idea to keep an eye on the sky. As radio operators many of us have towers and elaborate antenna systems that could be damaged by severe weather. These storms can also threaten our home and families. Here is a good link with lots of information about storm spotting.
Many of us use 145.555 simplex to keep in touch with each other and we have an informal club ragchew net every Wednesday night at 7:30 on 145.555. For those not in simplex range we also have an Echolink node at N2PPI-L
Gary K2GK has created a Facebook page called “Ham Radio Outdoors” that has over 2900 members online and has lots of good info on portable operations.
The clubhouse will be closed on monday January 15th due to Martin Luther King holiday.
Our January Business meeting will be on Monday January 29th starting at 7:30PM.
The next Club event will be Winter Field Day held at the Clubhouse on the weekend of January 27th and 28th. It should be a fun event! Rich will be cooking some food like he has done previously. He will need some assistance with lifting the Dutch ovens and turning them during cooking as he is still be limited to what he can do with his right arm since the surgery.
We are collecting $5 per person for food at Winter Field Day. Please remit to Rob K2RRM no later than monday January 22nd.
