CLUB INFORMATION

We meet in the Special Activities Center at Eisenhower Park which is located at the Merrick Avenue entrance to the park. Small white house on the right behind the new handicap accessible ball field as you enter from Merrick Ave. We are there every Monday night between 7 and 9PM unless it is a holiday. Our Business meetings are held on the last Monday of the month.

We have a full HF station setup and can operate phone or CW. Our Club call is K2VN.  We operate Field Day every year from a local park.  The last several years we have operated during Lighthouse Weekend held in August and Winter Field Day held in January.

Many of us use 145.555 simplex to keep in touch with each other and we have an informal club ragchew net every Wednesday night at 7:30 on 145.555.  For those not in simplex range we also have an Echolink node at N2PPI-L

Gary K2GK has created a Facebook page called “Ham Radio Outdoors” that has over 2500 members online and has lots of good info on portable operations.

We will be activating the Horton Point Lighthouse again this year for Lighthouse / Lightship Weekend on Saturday August 19th. There will be 3 stations set up – SSB, CW and Digital.  A BBQ lunch is planned. We should arrive at the Lighthouse around 8am and hopefully be on the air by 9am. Depending on weather and band conditions we will stay on the air until around 3 or 4pm.

The address of the Lighthouse is:

Horton Point Lighthouse

3575 Lighthouse Road

Southold NY 11971

There are several ways to get there but the simplest is take the Long Island Expressway to exit 71N, Edwards Ave.  Take Edwards Ave north to Sound Ave and turn right heading east. Stay on Sound Ave and after you pass through Mattituck and Peconic you will get into Southold. Turn left at Erik’s Cafe onto Hortons Lane.  Then make the second right onto Soundview Ave. Then make the third left onto Lighthouse Road.  Take that to the end and pull into the parking lot on the left.

Our next Business meeting will be on Monday August 28th starting at 7:30PM.
